Dear Friends of UHV,

I want to thank you for being a part of UHV’s success during the 2022-2023 year. As we step into the new year together, I am filled with optimism and enthusiasm, eager to witness the transformative impact we can make on the lives of our students and the broader community. Our commitment to excellence has been unwavering. Together, we will continue to elevate our institution and make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.

Academics

College of Business

Students in a University of Houston-Victoria business course have set two new records for the university with five teams placing in the weekly Top 25 rankings of the Global Business Simulation competition and one team being placed in the Top 100 five times.

College of Education & Health Professions

The UHV Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program received accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, an autonomous accrediting agency that is officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences

The college is creating three new minors that will focus on interdisciplinary areas including race, gender and disability studies, thanks to a $150,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

College of Natural & Applied Science

Two students received top recognition for their research at conferences. Jose Ramirez received first place at the Texas Academy of Sciences Conference Biomedical Sciences division, and Michael Murphy won the Best Paper Award during the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Conference on artificial intelligence in cybersecurity.

Student Affairs

Our UHV students are driven to succeed – hungry for opportunities and academic greatness. The university offers activities, programs and learning experiences that encourage and support them in their endeavors.

  • UHV Student Life facilitated more than 186 events in Victoria and Katy.
  • Hosted conferences for UHV, VC and local high school students.
  • The International Festival was attended by more than 600 students, faculty, staff and community members.
UHV Men's Soccer team

Athletics

Being a student-athlete is no easy feat. It requires commitment, discipline and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The student-athletes in each of our six athletic teams play and work hard together both on and off the field.

  • Baseball won the RRAC Conference Tournament and played in the NAIA National Championship for the first time since 2014 and the fourth time in program history.
  • Softball reached the RRAC championship game.
  • The Men’s Golf team were RRAC champions for the third-straight time and went to the NAIA National Championships.
  • The Women’s Golf team finished fourth in the Continental Athletic Conference tournament
  • The Men’s Soccer team made it to the RRAC Conference tournament semi-finals for the eighth consecutive season.
  • Women’s Soccer won 11 games and had the best RRAC record in program history.

Donors

UHV is fortunate to have a multitude of supporters who believe higher education is an important resource and understand its value to both individual students and the community. The university appreciates the support of all donors who continue to make a difference at UHV.

Community Partnerships

The Community Partnership Award is presented to a person, business or organization that has helped advance the quality of life in the region and at the university. This year, the award was given to The Cloyde and Ethel Lee Tracy Foundation. The foundation was created in May 1984 and has supported many projects in Victoria and the region. UHV is fortunate to have partners in the community who value higher education.

Grants

UHV receives many grants to support a variety of programs and initiatives. Here are some grants from the previous academic year:

  • $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education to train future school psychologists through a partnership with Katy ISD.
  • $150,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to help the university create three new minors: race and ethnic studies, women and gender studies, and disability studies.
  • $32,000 grant from Alcoa Foundation for STEM summer camps and activities such as Math & Robotics Awareness Day.
  • 5,000 shotgun shells from the NRA Foundation to the UHV Trap & Skeet Shooting Club to use as practice ammunition to prepare for future competitions and educate others about shotguns in a safe environment.
